Otomi Chairs Brighten Up a Family’s New Home

A few months ago, a client contacted me looking for a set of dining chairs. Her family had just moved from sunny New Mexico to Minnesota. She wanted something to brighten up their home during the long, dreary winters that were to come. There’s nothing better to cure the cold winter blues than colorful Otomi. And, she wanted something to remind them of home.

Why We Love the Boho Style

Just recently, I got an order from a client who gave me full freedom to use any fabrics of my choosing on a set of chairs. It’s a big compliment when I get those sort of orders. It’s also a little nerve racking. At least I knew they liked the boho style chairs I had done for a previous client, so I steered my creative efforts in that direction.  The boho-chic style is drawing more and more people, and so I had to ask myself, why? What draws us to this boho style?

How an Unassuming Pink Chair Helped Define a Tight Space

I need to stay away from antique malls. I really do. I always find something that I can’t resist. Actually, I do resist buying stuff. (You wouldn’t believe this if you saw my garage…never mind that, though). I rarely buy things when I first see them. Instead, I go home and if I can’t stop thinking about it for a week, I go back praying that it’s still there. Well, I saw this chair and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

How a Dishcloth Inspired Design for a Set of Chairs

I’m a frequent visitor to Anthropologie in Austin and on one of my visits this past year, I spied a dishcloth that immediately resonated with me. I love checks, black and white combos, and floral fabrics—this dishcloth had them all. The floral print was appliquéd on top of the black and white check.  The wheels started turning and the rest is history.

Pink is NOT for Babies

When we consider painting walls pink, we often envision rooms for sweet baby girls. How daring would it be, though, to paint a room that is used by the entire family, husband included? Pretty daring, as it turned out in my situation.

I wanted to do something really different. For the past six and a half years, I had a great warm yellow/whole wheat color on the wall. It was nice, but it was in desperate need of a paint refresh. So, I decided to make a big change instead of just repainting the same color.

My Favorite Chair Paint

Have you ever really considered all the different kinds of paint on the market today? I do, because I use paint all the time on the chairs that I revamp and reinvent for my clients. It’s not enough to just pick a color, I also have to consider the style of chair and the fabric that I’m using. I always tell my clients that the fabric will determine the paint. However, there’s a few other things to consider as well. Primarily, what look are we going for? Do we want modern, shabby chic, rustic, traditional, or something else?   Continue reading “My Favorite Chair Paint”
