Whimsical Shed Makeover Begins: Painted in Salty Dog & Prepping for a Mural
The shed at our cabin is finally getting its moment—and I couldn’t be more excited! What started as a brown, weathered little building is now on its way to becoming a colorful, creative retreat.
Step one in this shed makeover? Paint! I chose Salty Dog by Sherwin-Williams—a deep, bold blue that I also used on the cabin. It immediately brought life and personality to the shed, setting the perfect stage for what’s coming next: a whimsical mural!
But before we could paint, we had to tackle some not-so-glamorous prep work. We swept off the roof (covered in pine needles and leaves), knocked down what felt like a million spiderwebs (cue the heebie-jeebies), and cleaned up the trim and base to get it mural-ready.
Here’s a peek at the before and after transformation:

Before: Tired brown siding and peeling trim

After: A fresh coat of Salty Dog brings instant charm (it looks a lot better anyway!)
What’s Next: A Shed Mural!
I still need to do a few tedious things like paint the window box and glaze the windows. I’ve already ordered the paints and set up a projector to help me scale the mural design onto the shed walls. The best part? I’m learning directly from Lori Siebert, an incredibly talented artist and muralist who is guiding me through this process.
I’ll be sharing everything I learn from Lori—step by step—as I go. So if you’ve ever wanted to paint a mural on a shed, garage, or even an indoor wall, this will be a fun one to follow along with!

This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to take you along for the full transformation. Stay tuned—next up, we start sketching and painting!
