The Exterior | My Whimsical Cabin Makeover
When we got our cabin this past winter, we started thinking about possibly changing the exterior color. We’ve never done something like that with any of our homes, but this cabin was so bland.
Inspired by one of our favorite shows, Maine Cabin Masters, we began looking for a fun color.
I landed on Salty Dog by Sherwin Williams. It seemed to be the right deep but yet bright blue color. I’m so glad I did!
Once we got the exterior painted, we began thinking about painting the door and what color that would be.
At first, I selected a lime green, a color Sherwin Williams suggested to go with Salty Dog. It didn’t work out. So, I shifted gears.
I decided to go with a light blue/turquoise color. Tidal Wave by Benjamin Moore looked great to me, so I took the risk again.
It looked amazing! I found a vintage life ring at a local antique shop and hung it for a wreath. I also found some buoys and painted them to match.
We painted some canoe oars to hang on the side of the house for decoration and some personality.
The side was so plain before.
My husband painted a Norwegian flag on one of the canoe oars. I just painted stripes of various colors.
It really added much needed color to the side of the house. We also put up some lattice around the base of the cabin.
I got a striped umbrella in another color of blue but it all really went together just perfectly! Sometimes I think we get hung up on everything matching perfectly. But it’s more interesting if you add in variety.
We picked up some Adirondack chairs in light blue so we could sit in comfort out on the porch. You can see some more of those buoys over to the left side of the porch.
What was once bland, is now packed full of personality and color.
I’m so glad we painted it!
Next year we will add some landscaping to the side of the cabin to soften it a bit. Hydrangea bushes grow like crazy here, so that might be in the cards!
We’ve gotten so many complements from neighbors! I smile every time I drive up!
