From Boring to Blooming: My Shed Mural Makeover Begins
If you’ve been following along with my summer cabin series, you already know how much I love transforming ordinary things into joyful works of art—and this next project might be my most whimsical yet. 🎨✨

Right now, my little shed sits out back, looking…well, boring. It serves a purpose, sure—but it doesn’t spark joy just yet. That’s about to change in a big way.

I’m thrilled to be working with the talented Lori Siebert, an artist and muralist whose work I’ve admired for ages. We collaborated with chairs/fabrics a few years ago.

She’s mentoring me through the process of turning this shed into a colorful showstopper. Together, we’ve been exploring mural ideas that bring together florals, butterflies, pattern play, and a little Otomi inspiration—all with that signature Chair Whimsy flair.

✏️ Behind the Sketches: Playing with Patterns & Possibilities
Here are a few of the sketches Lori has created so far:
-
Option A & B: These have a charming mix of wildflowers and butterflies, with playful energy and a soft garden feel. Perfectly whimsical!

-
Option C & D: I love the idea of incorporating chairs right into the mural itself—such a fun nod to what I do! There’s even a strawberry tucked into one corner. 🍓

-
Option E & F: These lean bolder, with oversized blooms and tonal stripes in the background, and even some Otomi-style birds that add movement and charm.

-
Side Views (A & B): These designs focus on the double doors of the shed—you can see ideas with large butterflies, cheerful florals, and the sweetest hand-lettered “hello” greeting at the top.

We haven’t picked final colors yet, but we’re dreaming in hues that will feel like an extension of the joyful, color-filled world of Chair Whimsy. Think playful pinks, sunny yellows, grassy greens, and maybe a pop of periwinkle or bold coral for that extra punch.
🌸 Why a Mural?
For me, art and design aren’t just about decorating—they’re about feeling. I want to walk out into my yard and feel like my shed is smiling at me. I want my neighbors to pass by and feel a burst of joy. I want this space—like all the others I touch—to be unexpected, happy, and boldly creative.
This mural is another step in revealing who I am in this community. I’ve been slowly bringing color to my cabin, and this is my chance to bring the outside to life too.
🎨 Want to Follow Along?
I’ll be sharing updates as we narrow down designs and begin painting this summer. I’ll even walk you through the process if you’re thinking of doing something like this in your own space.
And yes… you better believe there will be chairs involved somewhere. 😉
So, tell me: Which sketch is your favorite? Would you go big and bold with oversized blooms or sweet and delicate with butterflies and wildflowers?
