One Dining Room, 3 Ways

Do you ever look at your dining room and wonder how you could change up the look entirely? Well, last month, a friend and I did just that! My friend, Sara McDaniel from Simply Southern Cottage fame, allowed me to bring my new Spring Collection of chairs to her home to photograph them. Her space is all neutral, so I knew that it would be the perfect backdrop for my colorful chairs to shine. What I didn’t expect was how we could create three completely different looks with my chairs around her amazing farmhouse table.

First up…Mexican textiles!

This pairing of authentic Mexican textiles with a farmhouse table probably surprised me the most. I didn’t know what to expect, honestly, but I just needed some shots of these chairs around a table. And boy, do I love this look! The bold frames in black and dark blue with the variety of colors on the seats and tops needed something calm to unite them and the off white farmhouse table was the perfect thing. The rest of the neutral space allows the embroidered tops to be the star of the show and nothing competes with them.

Next up…all white cottage look!

There’s nothing as great as a set of white chairs with some pretty florals to brighten up a farmhouse. And this set did not disappoint us. Just like the Mexican textiles, all the whitewash frames match one another. The fabrics, however, create the difference. This look brightens the space and gives off a cottage feel. We even tried a different chair at the end of the table…which is your favorite?

And finally…boho chic!

Now, let me just say that this mixing and matching of chairs caught both of us completely off guard. Before our eyes we watched as the cottage look of all white chairs gave way to a bohemian vibe as we added in floral stained chairs. The floral fabrics were created from art from Carrie Schmitt and you can read more about our collaboration by clicking here.

And all we could say when we saw these pictures was, WOW!

Perhaps the moral to this story is that if you have a neutral space, you can do anything you want to layer in color…like colorful chairs or a colorful table top.

That’s what I love so much about designing and the creative process…you can always be surprised when putting things together. Sometimes you’ll find you love something you thought you wouldn’t…and other times you’ll hate something you thought you would! Have you experienced this too? I would love to hear about it in the comments section.
