How 2 Artists Collaborated to Create a Fab Product

Just before Christmas, I received an interesting request from an artist on Instagram. Carrie Schmitt wanted to know if I would be interested in collaborating on a product together—her paintings on my chairs. As soon as I looked at her feed, I knew the answer was a loud YES! Her colorful abstract florals were a sight for my sore eyes.

After getting high resolution images of her art, I went to work getting them printed on different kinds of fabrics including velvets, cottons, and linens. When they arrived in the mail, I was in color heaven! I knew these would be a huge smash on my chairs. The fun part began as I put together finishes and sets of chairs that could work together or individually.

Once the chairs were finished, I planned on traveling with them to my friend, Sara McDaniel’s home in Minden, Lousiana. She is on Instagram and Facebook as Simply Southern Cottage. Her home is super neutral, so I knew my chairs would pop in that space, plus she has the cutest greenhouse in her backyard! I hired a fantastic photographer, Nicole from Southern Shutter Photography to shoot all the outdoor pics…and we got some great ones!

We hauled those chairs all over the yard, both front and back! The next morning, Sara got out her little camera and took photos inside as I staged the area around the table. She did a great job taking the pics, didn’t she?

It all culminated when Carrie flew down here last week from Seattle to celebrate the collaboration at my Spring Launch Party on Saturday night. My niece (who’s company, Lettered by Grace does hand lettering) lettered our big and small signs as well as the menus. Then, Carrie embellished it with her flowers.

We had a huge crowd come through and it was a blast! I took this cute Spring Collection to Blue Hills at Round Top on Monday and got to meet so many great people!

I’m finally recovering from all activity. But I’m also so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with such great people, especially Carrie, on this new line of chairs. They are all available to purchase too on my website!
