Three Things I Learned While Traveling
If you follow me on Facebook, you probably know I’ve been traveling for the last week. I love traveling and being away forces me do more relaxing. Here’s a few things I’ve learned…
Lesson 1: Taking on an adventure is always worth it. Call me crazy, but we never book resort vacations. Sure, resort vacations are safe, but they have the potential to rob us of the real culture of a place. Because we crave adventure, we decided to stay in 3 different places in France and booked our rooms on Air B&B. The prices are much cheaper than typical hotels and you can see pics as well as reviews, so you know what you are getting. And best of all, you live where the locales live…away from the tourist spots. All three places were beautiful and we felt immersed in the culture immediately. Exploring the neighborhoods brought exciting surprises around every corner. If we had played it safe, we may never have seen scenes like this.
Lesson 2: With every adventure inevitably comes a little frustration. It’s a trade off. It’s not going to go smooth all the time. So, we rented a car…but it’s not fun driving in a city like Paris. The motorcyclists, bikers, and other drivers can scare the you-know-what out of you. Trust me on this one! A car is great when you are in small towns-you can explore all the neat places nearby, but turn in the car once you get to the big city. It will save you a stroke or two.
Lesson 3: Disconnecting is something I need to do more. It’s so easy for me to waste time on television and social media sites, and it doesn’t make me any happier. I can’t afford to waste time. And I’m all about setting myself up for more happiness. So it’s really good when I’m reminded that life goes on even if wifi doesn’t always work. It makes me stop and notice the little things all around me and live in the moment. Taking note of the little things I saw- looking for details-was one goal I set for my trip.
Maybe these lessons will inspire you to take on more adventures. I’ve got a few days left on this trip, so I’m going to say goodbye for now and make the most of it!
