The Kitchen | My Whimsical Cabin Makeover

The kitchen, like all the spaces in our cabin, was just a blank slate.

It tied into the dining and living space in the big room.

I knew it needed a big dose of color.

It was painted the same as the living room since it was attached.

The space was big enough that I felt I could add an island if I wanted to.

As you can see, the floor slopes down near the edge…all our floors do that!

Since we didn’t have any upper cabinets, I chose to get shelving. I found this cute shelf at an antique shop, cleaned it, and left the original green paint on it. It was perfect for my glasses.

I also found this cute wooden horse tiny bench. I accidentally put it on the counter and thought it would also make some unique shelving. I splurged on this small canister for sugar and big canister for flour.

I also have been taking some art lessons this summer from artist Kim Parker. Here’s one of my paintings. I couldn’t find a frame that fit, so I decided to float the canvas inside a larger frame on the wall.

I also hung one next to my coffee station. I found an antique frame and spray painted it red. I hung my coffee mugs on these cute hangers on the post to save space.

Yes, we do dishes by hand since we don’t have a dishwasher. I got these cute plates by Glitterville. The leopard painting is by Drunk Girl Designs.

I needed something special above the sink. I considered hanging an old window there, but then I found this vintage carnival sign on Ebay and knew I had to have it! The colors were perfect!

It worked so well with my amazing washable runner rug from Annie Selke. It’s a collab with Frances Valentine…and you guys know how much I love both of those brands!

Even the kitchen knobs got a replacement with these cute wooden ones I found on Etsy.

I got this old workbench from Schuyler Pond Home & Garden. I’ve since become friends with the owner, Amanda, who is an an amazing stylist. You can shop her stuff online by clicking here!

I felt that it needed a skirt to soften the space. So I got fabric from Joann’s and made a no-sew skirt using liquid stitch, my iron, and 3 tension rods.

I got this cute kissing both sign from Etsy and put it on the front of the tool bench.

I needed some styling help for the island, so Amanda came by and gave me some great tips and some of her treasures from her shop. I had this yellow basket I found at an antique shop. She suggested stuffing it with some of my fabric scraps.

I hung an apron on the side of the post, too.

She brought over a cake stand and a green cabinet because the table needed some height.

We added a chair, too.

We opened a cookbook and styled it with some pompom trim. Now, that’s an easy touch!

Cut up colorful fruit on the luxury white melamine platter and bowls.

I love the green checked plates and bowl!

And here’s another great idea, when styling with flowers, mix artificial and real ones together!

Amanda brought out her antique sugar and creamer and used them as mini vases with flowers. Clever!

I got this cute cake clock on Etsy…I couldn’t resist it!

Then, I turned to the refrigerator. I tried to put a pink wrap on it from Etsy, but the front just wrinkled terribly and showed every bump. So, I switched gears and ordered this wallpaper from Spoonflower.

I should have done this from the beginning…I love how it looks! The art to the left is a beautiful painting by artist Jennifer Paganelli.

Look at the before and after now!

Isn’t it so much fun? I love how all the colors are working together and it just makes me smile every time I walk in there.
