The Guest Bedroom | My Whimsical Cabin Makeover
The guest bedroom in our cabin presented a problem because of the layout. It is really long and narrow. So narrow, that we could only fit a full-sized bed if we wanted our guest to be able to get out of bed on each side without being forced to scoot to the bottom edge. (Nope, trundle beds won’t work either because the room wasn’t wide enough.) I placed it at the far end…really that was my only choice.
The floral curtains are a print from Spoonflower and were the starting point for the design in this room.
To make big splash of color, I Annie Selke sent me two large pillows and one long lumbar pillow. The blanket at the edge coordinated with the lumbar pillow. And this red and pink striped rug…oh boy, I was going to have some fun here.
This ivory comforter from Annie Selke was the perfect thing to be my neutral in the space. To hide all our storage, I got this bedskirt , too. Together it all makes a super cute set!
I found the wooden headboard on FB Marketplace for $10 and painted it using Dixie Belle Peony chalk paint.
I scored this cute side table on Marketplace for $20 and painted it Dixie Belle Serenity chalk paint.
The amazing striped rug is part of the Grey Benko collection at Annie Selke. It just topped off the space perfectly!
The white distressed lamp with the adorable lamp shade came from Pooky Lighting. (Psst, it’s on sale this week!)
This shade adds in the much needed polka-dots in the room and also complements the colors. And it’s the perfect size for a bedside table.
We were in bad need of storage, so I turned to FB Marketplace and found this huge dresser for $15!
I painted it Dixie Belle Antebellum Blue but didn’t know what else I would do to it.
In the meantime, my artist friend Sara Glupker asked if she could help with art for this room, and I said, Heck yes! She custom painted these super cute houses in the perfect colors.
She has prints of all three of these (and many others) on her website. Click here to check them out.
Sara is also teaching an online workshop on how to create your own artist calendar on Thursday of this week, August 29th. Click here to see more about it and use the code Whimsy for 20% off.
Those art pieces led me to stripe my dresser in coordinating colors. I just used frog tape and went to town adding in some personality.
This room also included a few chair makeovers. I found a set of these, but only used one in the room.
I painted it with the same pink as the headboard, Dixie Belle Peony.
Then added a few Schumacher fabrics including this embroidery that I already had on hand from a previous project and this check. I found this painted antique ironing board at a local antique mall.
When I saw this vintage lamp on FB Marketplace, I had to have it. But it needed a new shade and a new updated color. So I spray painted the base a bright red.
Pooky Lighting came to the rescue with this adorable striped lampshade, which couldn’t be more perfect for my circus-chic theme in the cabin!
You might remember the cordless lamp from my living room? That’s also from Pooky Lighting. You can check it out here.
Dawn from The Art Booth gave me this cute bakery print for my cabin.
I ordered this lion print from Drunk Girl Designs.
I found this cute lima-bean shaped table back in June on FB marketplace, and I finally decided to put it in this room.
It’s so cute painted now and I even updated the knobs.
The whole room really came together nicely.
It has lots of personality now.
We’ve only had 1 guest, my youngest daughter, come stay so far, but maybe more will come next summer.

I’ve got more cabin room makeovers from the past month including the latest one, my entryway on my blog.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts. Stay tuned this weekend for the the cabin name reveal and a full tour of the cabin!
