The Dining Room | My Whimsical Cabin Makeover
One space that we use multiple times a day is our dining room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s the only eating space in the cabin.
Because this is an open space, it floats right in the middle of the kitchen and living room.
It was so boring and in a huge need of color, I couldn’t help myself but go all out to make this a fun place.
The color scheme needed to work with the rest of the cabin’s main room.
I started with the chairs. I wanted to do something a little unexpected, so I used my daughter’s painted Fridas for the backside.
I put the images into Canva and changed the background so that it would be pink. I also added in a few red flowers so that it would work with my red, pink, and blue color scheme. Then, I sent over the prints to Spoonflower and printed it on fabric.
I chose this set of chairs because it has a large surface on the top and I knew the Fridas would showcase really well.
To spice things up, I painted the chairs Honky Tonk Red by Dixie Belle.
I also added a fabric to the front that has a fun small print in all the right colors. It’s a lighter cotton that I typically use, but it was perfect. The red paint draws out the illusion of red in the flowers.
This table had been around my shop for a couple of years and so I painted it blue so it would contrast with the red chairs.
Next, I selected the cafe curtain fabric designed by Molly Mahon for Schumacher. I’m always a sucker for a cute check.
The cafe style makes it easy to open for the view but close if we want privacy.
I took a vintage chandelier I purchased a couple of years ago and decided to use it in this space.
I embellished the flowers in red and pink to match the decor. I also added a cotton striped fabric to hide the chain.
I simply ironed the ends and then used fabric glue to seal it around the cord and chain. I painted the hook pink.
This red and pink canopy from Stray Dog Designs hides the pot light that was there previously.
Then, all that the table needed was some cute placemats and a rug. The rug helps to define the space. This jute rug comes in all colors.
It’s definitely a happy spot to use for dining! I think we should all punch up our dining spaces to make them more joyful!
