Speak Now Taylor Swift Inspired Chair
My latest chair is inspired by the Speak Now album by Taylor Swift. This is the 9th chair in a series of chairs I’ve been releasing since October counting down to attending Taylor’s concert in Amsterdam next month with my daughters…we can’t believe it’s almost here!
This makeover began with finding the right chair. And before even finding the chair, I knew this one had to have a skirt.
I’ve always dreamed of doing a chair with a cute skirt, and this was finally my chance!
I liked the way this chair had a heart like shape top, giving it a sweet and young look. I felt that was the perfect vibe for Taylor’s 3rd album.
Once I got it stripped down, I had to decide on fabric and paint. The fabric always drives the paint color.
I knew the fabric had to be mainly purple because I wanted to match the dresses Taylor wore in her Speak Now concerts and on the cover of the album. But I didn’t want to do just a plain purple fabric.
I had a few yards of a discontinued fabric designed by artist Kim Parker with varied shades of purple flowers on it. It was perfect for this project.
After priming the chair, I could see that white paint wasn’t going to give me the look I wanted. So I found a pale purple chalk paint called Henrietta by Annie Sloan.
The chair came together so well, but I needed to add the skirt. So, I turned to my friend and fellow upholsterer, Laura, for help. She measured out the leftover fabric I had and added a lining. Then, we went to work stapling the fabric on and adding in pleats.
After that, I added the tulle underneath to make it extra poofy. I used 3 layers to get the right effect. The legs still peek put underneath.
I love it.
It’s the perfect mixture of elegance and youth that exemplifies the Speak Now album.
