Mexican Textiles Provide a Refreshing Update
More and more, I really enjoy working with Mexican textiles. Each set I do is unique, but they all end up looking like a family…like they belong together. This set is no different. We began with some very basic, classic chairs that really needed a makeover.
Then, four textiles were selected in different colors and I went to work hunting down velvets for the seats. We could have gone with so many other colors, as you can see here. Having something multi-colored provides many good options.
Ultimately, we ended up with pink, purple, green, and orange…however any of the options above would have worked out. Based on the seat colors, I suggested using one of my newest favorite paints—Aubusson Blue by Annie Sloan.
This is where the seat colors matter…when selecting paint. If we had gone with a blue seat, we might have needed to select a different paint for the frames.
It’s a beautiful blue that leans a little teal, but not too much. And since we’d already done a chair for the adjoining living room in this color, it just made sense to carry it into the dining space.
The designs on these textiles are different, too. We found two that had larger toucans and two that had peacocks.
Since these are dining chairs, the backside will most likely show more than the front of the chairs as they are pushed up to the table.
Instead of putting the velvet on the arms of the arm chairs, I decided to use the textiles there. The designs are large overall, but I was able to pair a flower on one and a smaller bird on the other arm.
And here you have the set! These are so fun and refreshing…truly a unique set that no one else will have.
It’s hard for me to choose, but which one do you love best? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments section!
