Desperate Chairs Call for Desperate Measures
This past week I held my 8th Ugly Chair Challenge, and it involved (like they all do) a chair makeover.
It all starts with letting the group vote on a chair they would like me to redo.
This time around I had two desperate chairs…
The group overwhelmingly voted for the chair on the left.
So I got busy stripping it all the way down. This is cabin-edition, friends! It all happened outside.
Then, my mind turned to fabrics. I had several on hand that I had brought from home. I needed a chair for the extra bedroom in my cabin, so I looked through my stash to see what would work.
Another option…
I finally decided on the yellow paint…because the fabrics always drives the paint color and this one would work with the room too.
What you don’t know, is that I had a bit of a fiasco here this past week. The outlets at my cabin could not handle the voltage or watts of my compressor. So I sent out a plea and a sweet follower, Angela, came to my rescue. I went to her workspace in her home about 30 minutes away and worked on the upholstery.
Above is her workspace. A couple of years ago, she took my upholstery course and redid her own dining chairs! Here we are in her studio.
She also creates pictorial quilts. Check this one out of her dog…Amazing work!
After a few hours I finally completed my chair. I selected an embroidery for the top, and a pink buffalo check for the seat.
I wanted the backside to be fun since it will be up against a desk/table, so I put the ladybug fabric there. It turned out pretty good for doing it in a pinch!
To go from this to this is pretty fun! I love envisioning what a chair can become…it’s really the most fun thing I do.
‘
It’s my medium for expressing my creativity. I love doing it! You may think I’m crazy for saying this, but learning upholstery really does change people’s lives…it did mine!
If you are interested in learning how to do fun chairs too, my DIY Upholstery course is open today (Sunday) through this Thursday. You can start for as little as $39.99 a month with my newest payment plan. The course is all pre-recorded, you can go at your own pace and rewatch as much as you need with lifetime access. You can check out the course by clicking here.
And finally, let me know what you think about this chair makeover!
