Debut Taylor Swift Inspired Chair

This is the 10th chair for my Chair-a’s Tour and it’s Taylor’s Debut album. This album was released in 2006, and I still remember driving my kids to school and hearing her music on the radio, particularly the “Tim McGraw” song. We loved her music from the start!

So, when I went to design this chair based on her first album, I had to comb back through my memories of who she was at the beginning. Her music was country, so I knew I needed a wooden frame chair.

When I found this chair at a local antique shop, I knew I had to have it. It was small and had a sweet, youthful design.

I particularly love the backside design.

So I stripped off all the fabric and decided to sand down the frame so that it had a rustic country look which reminded me of her early music.

I selected a paisley fabric in light denim for the top of the chair. Then, I found a butterfly stencil. This album cover had ombre butterflies on it, so I felt it was fitting to do the same. I placed that stenciled fabric on the backside of the chair.

Then, I covered the front with the plain denim fabric, but embellished the trim with a bright floral, which to me, represented her youth.

I selected a Mongolian fur for the seat in a natural color. If you remember, her hair was long and curly back then. So this seat fabric seemed fitting.

I love the poofy look of this chair together with the rustic frame was ideal to represent her first chair.

When we photographed it back in April, I just couldn’t help but smile. It looks like her Debut to me.

I’m glad I added the unexpected floral trim on top to give it a bit of fun color. But still honored the denim country look.

The butterflies were also a fun nod to her album cover from that time. I am anxiously awaiting her release of Taylor’s Version of this album.
