Adventures in Round Top

One of my most favorite things to do is shop the flea markets. And yesterday I hiked out to Round Top for the bi-annual flea market event. Flea markets are a one of a kind experience. You will find all kinds of things that you never knew you wanted…if you know what I mean. Several students from my Business of Chairs class came and we went hunting for the best things.

What is life if you don’t stop by Junk Gypsy?

First of all, don’t even get me started on the fabulous chandeliers you’ll find at this flea market. I wanted every one of them even though I have no place to put them. Here’s a few of my favorites…

There’s plenty of reproduction pieces, but I’m always a sucker for “real” old tables…I would buy them all if I had room and another house to store them in!

And the old store counters are just so fun. I keep dreaming of a kitchen large enough for something like this one below!

There’s old furniture of all kinds in various shades of color like this super cute hutch below. Certainly there must be a place for this in my home???

The most difficult thing is when you spy that perfect piece but have absolutely no way to get it home because it’s enormous…and you wonder if you could even get it inside your house.

I stop for pink refrigerators (should that be a bumpersticker?) Maybe I could store my fabrics in there?

Sometimes you’ll even see campers for sale! And some of them are dressing rooms for the clothing shops.

Round Top is a 3 week long adventure (that happens twice a year) with various venues that open and close during that time, but my best tip is to go during the final days. Shop keepers are always ready to make a deal with you because they don’t want to load up their trucks with everything. My second best tip is to wear comfortable shoes…it’s a lot of walking. And finally, bring a Uhaul so you can buy everything you want. 🙂

What I want to know is…have you been to flea markets and if so, what is your favorite one? I may need to plan some road trips!
