The Entry Way | My Whimsical Cabin Makeover
With the living room, dining area, and kitchen complete, I had a small empty space just inside the door. I wondered if I would have room there, and sure enough, once all the living room furniture was put in place, I did. My husband needed a place to work from home, and this spot was perfect, with a window for a view.
Just a week after being here, I found this desk on Facebook Marketplace for free. It fit the space just inside the door perfectly.
I also visited an antique shop nearby and saw a bunch of vintage and antique lures. I thought these were so cool and bought a few not knowing how I would display them. My husband had picked up a new fishing rod and decided he wanted to spend time doing that in our lake.
I ended up just painting a board the same color as our wall and hot gluing them to the board, and we hung it on the wall.
There was just enough space to hang his fishing rod right next to it.
He’s a map collector and he found this old map of New England already framed, so it was hung by his desk.
It took a while for me to figure out what to paint the desk.
I eventually decided on a darker blue chalk paint, Dixie Belle Cape Current with a top coat.
He needed a desk chair, and I found this on FB Marketplace too. At first it had casters, but because our floor is uneven, he kept rolling down away from his desk. He removed them.
The chair was painted the same with a few slats painted white to break up the monotony.
I found this great striped cushion on Amazon, which was the perfect way to tie the red into the room.
The space started looking really great with the Molly Mahon/Schumacher block printed fabric on my curtains. My friends over at Plush Home Fabric in Austin made all my curtains.
Then, I turned to the door. Which had been white.
I selected Sherwin Williams Overjoy for the door to add an unexpected pop of color.
And I can honestly say this Watercolor Horizon Multi machine washable rug from Annie Selke is the hardest working rug I’ve ever had! We track in so much dirt and leaves from outside and it cleans beautifully. It also stays in place so we don’t slip.
Overall, the space looks amazing. My husband is happy with it too. It just proves you can take a small nook and do something really great and useful with it!
