Studio Decorating

Since I built this second edition to my studio almost 3 years ago, I’ve wanted to do wallpaper on this particular wall. But not just any wallpaper…I’ve wanted to use this wallpaper by talented artist Kim Parker. It’s called Ariadne’s Dream and it’s the jumbo print—Nothing else was going to do it for me!

In case you are wondering if this print comes in a fabric, yes it does! And I’ve used it in my vintage/farmhouse collection on my website. This is the linen, but it also comes in velvet!

So, I ordered the wallpaper through my to-the-trade vendor (Kravet) and got to work on it this past week. And I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me to walk into my studio now.

And if you are wondering, yes…I did it all alone! And I’ve got the video to prove it. (Click here to watch!) Another question that I’ve been asked is was the wallpaper pre-pasted? No, it was not. The instructions said to paste the wall, not the paper…so that’s what I did. It’s not hard to do, I promise!

This whole experience got me to thinking…why do we wait to do things that we know will bring us infinite amounts of joy? Sometimes it’s money…which is totally understandable. We’ve got to save and budget for certain splurges. But honestly, other times we have no excuse!

Once I got the wallpaper hung and trimmed out the edges, I was in heaven.

I began to add in some fun features that were hiding in my garage. I spray painted a pink side table. I brought in some antiqued-patina shutters in the perfect shade of blue.

I wondered how this would affect my pictures…floral on floral? Is it too much? Who cares! If it makes me happy, that’s what matters because I work there every day!

My work bench went back in place, and I started back to work on some fun Mexican textile chairs.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned…take the time to surround yourself with beauty and the things that bring you joy. It’s so worth the price it costs and the time it takes.

You better believe I’ll be smiling every day as I walk into my workspace! What are you waiting for? Why not take action and get the ball rolling on the things that will bring you joy today? Trust me, you won’t regret it!
