Road Trip to Marfa

Have you met my assistant yet? Her name is Sydney and she’s full of super fun ideas…

…like taking a day trip to Marfa, Texas. For those of you who don’t know, I’m located in the Austin area and Marfa is due west about six and a half hours. It’s Texas country at its very best. The movie, No Country for Old Men, was filmed in that area.  Just outside of Marfa is a sculpture of a Prada building created by two artists in 2005. She thought it would be a great backdrop for photos, and she was not wrong!

What we discovered is that this Prada store is not actually in Marfa, it’s about 40 minutes further down the road in Valentine, Texas. And yes, it’s literally in the middle of nowhere just like the pictures depict.  While we were there, onlookers stopped to take their pictures and so we had move our chairs several times. But we found willing workers to help us…like this gentleman.

We even got his wife to pose for a picture for us. Isn’t she spectacular? She selected her favorite to sit on, a black on black mongolian fur.

A set of newlyweds also stopped by and posed on my chairs. We had a lot of onlookers, too. I’m sure they were wondering, what crazy people would bring a bunch of chairs out here? There were some who were willing to take our picture as well.

And, there was a quick wardrobe change on the side of the road. This is not how I looked during the majority of the trip, in case you were wondering!

I learned several things while on this trip. In case you missed it, check out my social media post this past Friday. But one big one was to never pick up tumbleweeds with your bare hands. I had no idea how many sharp stickers were on these tumbleweeds, as I jumped out of the car to grab one. Needless to say, after a big yelp, I left it alone.

After our photoshoot, we turned around and made our way back home. It was a long trip, but so worth it. I hadn’t been out that way for about 13 years, so it was a nice reminder of the beautiful landscape of west Texas. And most of all, we ended up with some great photos!  Incidentally, these chairs are my newest collection launching in the next week. Stay tuned for more info on these fun animal prints!
