Many of you might know that I traveled to France last month for the first time and had a ball! One of my favorite things was perusing the local flea markets there. And that’s where I spotted the perfect fabric that would grace the kitchen chairs in my own home!

You might think that because I can upholster, I’ve got my home completely done with  great pieces of furniture all beautifully upholstered. While I do have a few pieces that are beautiful, to a certain extent, I am the cobbler with no shoes. Example number one: we’ve gone months without any permanent chairs at my kitchen table. These are the ones I’ve wanted to use for a while, but they were wobbly and the fabric was very dirty.

Until I spotted the perfect fabric at the flea market in Avignon!  I passed by the table 3 times before committing to the meter of fabric. You might think I’m crazy for picking a fabric with a white background for the kitchen, but these have an incredible layer of scotch guard unlike anything I’ve encountered here in the West.


I left the dark wood as is because it makes a great contrast to the light and airy fabric. Plus, the dark wood keeps the fabric from looking like a little girl’s room—bringing a maturity to the fabric. I just cleaned it up a bit and allowed the age of the chairs to show.

Muddle a handful of blueberries in a mixing glass, then add:
2 oz vodka
.5 oz agave syrup
.25 oz fresh grapefruit juice
Add ice and shake for 5 seconds; strain into a chilled cocktail glass; garnish with fresh blueberries
