When I started with the bathroom makeover, I had a clean white slate…literally. The paneled walls were painted white and there was just a bit of wood trim.

I knew what I had to do. I just needed to layer in the color. to give it some personality. And the space is so small, I felt it wouldn’t be that hard to do.

You may remember me talking about the really small shower and sink. This view above shows just how small that sink is! The shower is a half circle to the left. We’ve adjusted to it and found ways to make both work.

There was a small shallow built in right inside the door. We found ways to make that useful too.

 

You might remember my design plan. It all started with the curtain fabric by Molly Mahon for Schumacher. It is a small block print with a huge punch of color. After talking with my friends over at Plush Home Fabrics in Austin, we decided to go with cafe curtains. It was the perfect solution to having enough light in the room and having privacy too.

I found some fun hand towels in red and pink too. The print is by Marimekko and it matched the curtain fabric perfectly. These do come in all sizes, but we only wanted the hand towels.

The bathmat was a funny find too. It had the right colors, though, and so I snatched it up. There are not too many red and pink bath accessories to be found.  (It looks like they only have a mauve version now.)

I then turned to the shelving. We need the storage, but I didn’t want all my toiletries to be exposed. So my husband had 3 pieces of wood cut at the local hardware store. He put a hinge on the right edge.

I had these knobs laying around but they were in the wrong color.  So I spray painted them and added dots in another color with the wooden end of my paintbrush.

   

The next problem to solve involved towels. Because we don’t have central heat or air, I knew regular towels were not going to ever dry. So, I decided we would use Turkish towels. Many people use these at the beach because they dry easily. It took some getting used to, but these work great and they do dry fast.

We have them hung in the hallway outside the bathroom on hooks.  I found a full package of these towels in various colors and they mix/match great in our space.

I replaced a towel bar that hung partially over the toilet with another toilet paper roll holder. It allows us to hang our towel when we are in the shower and not get the toilet paper wet.

The last thing I added to this space was the fun art. I found this hilarious picture of a dog in a Gucci suit by Drunk Girl Designs. I framed it in a Target frame and it fit perfectly!

The entire space has personality now and functions quite well.
