How to Design a Happy Bedroom

You may remember my older daughter’s room makeover from last spring! So, it was time that my youngest daughter’s room got some attention. The turquoise walls were dirty and the color scheme was tired. We painted the walls a crisp white and began layering color throughout the room. The outcome was amazing!

First, we chose a multi-colored quilt, which allowed us to go with any color scheme we wanted. I pulled the yellow color from the quilt and painted the antique shutters to match—yellow is the key to a happy look!

Yellow and green became the main color scheme with splashes of orange and other colors. I happened to have a fun Otomi embroidery I had picked up in Mexico a few years back, and so I used it on the desk chair.

We needed a lamp for her bedside table (which I found for $5 at a yard sale!), and the only one around was a lucite lamp. I grabbed some orange spray paint and went to work. Then, I found some extra fabric in my studio and covered the lamp shade using an adhesive spray. It was just the thing we needed.

The crewel wall hanging came from an antique mall, and I originally had it in my shop. It was perfect for over the bed until we can find the right headboard.

I didn’t realize how much I loved yellow and green together until I did her room. It’s a perfect cottage look, so bright and cheery.

She’s off at college, so her room will eventually become a guest room, and I can’t imagine one more inviting for friends to use!
