How an Unassuming Pink Chair Helped Define a Tight Space

I need to stay away from antique malls. I really do. I always find something that I can’t resist. Actually, I do resist buying stuff. (You wouldn’t believe this if you saw my garage…never mind that, though). I rarely buy things when I first see them. Instead, I go home and if I can’t stop thinking about it for a week, I go back praying that it’s still there. Well, I saw this chair and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

How a Dishcloth Inspired Design for a Set of Chairs

I’m a frequent visitor to Anthropologie in Austin and on one of my visits this past year, I spied a dishcloth that immediately resonated with me. I love checks, black and white combos, and floral fabrics—this dishcloth had them all. The floral print was appliquéd on top of the black and white check.  The wheels started turning and the rest is history.

Do we want modern, shabby chic, rustic, traditional, or something else?   Continue reading “My Favorite Chair Paint”

Modern Chairs for a Rustic Salon

During my last hair appointment back in December, my hairstylist delivered the great news that she was moving shops. Her new shop was just a few minutes down South Congress Avenue in Austin. There, she would have room to not only design her own salon, but also have chickens and a community garden—two things she had only dreamed about. With this new design, she had two chairs that she wanted me to tackle. These would serve as the “waiting room” chairs. Continue reading “Modern Chairs for a Rustic Salon”

The Case for the 10-Minute Chair

You may be wondering, what exactly is a 10-minute chair? I heard this phrase for the first time just a few months ago. And my first response was, What in the world is a 10-minute chair?  It basically refers to how long you can sit in a chair comfortably. You might be wondering, if we could only survive 10 minutes in a chair, why would anyone bother with it? Continue reading “The Case for the 10-Minute Chair”
